Generate and Validate Schema Markup, Field by Field

Build JSON-LD for eight common types from a form, or paste the markup you have. Each field says whether it is required, recommended or optional, and the checks name what is missing.

  • Required and recommended fields named

At least 112 by 112 pixels, on a page search engines can crawl.

With country and area code, for example +91 79 1234 5678.

  • Warning

    Organization could add: legalName.

Google recommends these, and they make the markup more useful.

  • Note

Optional for Organization: alternateName, vatID, taxID, foundingDate.

  • Passed

    The structure is valid.

What Is Schema Markup?

Schema markup is a block of structured data, usually JSON-LD, that describes a page in a format machines read: this is a product with this price, this is an article by this author, this is a business at this address. Search engines use it to understand the page and, for some types, to show richer results.

Valid is not the same as complete. A block can parse correctly and still miss the properties a search engine needs. This product builds and checks against the same rules, so what you generate passes what you validate, and the checks tell you which fields are required, which are recommended and which are optional.

  • 8schema types you can build and check
  • 82form fields, each marked required, recommended or optional
  • 3output formats: script tag, JSON-LD and minified

How It Works

4 steps, and you stay in control of the result.

  1. Pick a type

Choose the kind of thing the page is about, such as an article, a product or a local business.

  2. Fill in the fields

Required fields are marked, then recommended ones, then optional ones. Empty fields show as a visible reminder, not a made-up value.

  3. Read the checks

The panel lists what is missing and what is wrong, in plain language, with the path to the field.

  4. Copy the markup

Choose a script tag, plain JSON-LD or minified, copy it and paste it into the page. Test it in Google's Rich Results Test before you publish.

What You Get

Eight types, with real depth

Products take price, availability, ratings and identifiers. Local businesses take a subtype, hours and location. Not three fields and a template.

Build and check together

The generator and the validator use one rules engine, so the markup you build is judged by the same rules as markup you paste.

Required, recommended, optional

Every field is labelled, so you know what is essential for eligibility and what only helps.

No fake values

Example data is clearly marked and never ends up in the output. Empty fields leave a visible note, so you cannot publish a made-up phone number by accident.

Safe to paste

The output cannot close the script tag it is pasted into, whatever you type in a field.

Honest about FAQ

Google removed FAQ rich results in June 2025. FAQ markup is still valid and machines read it, but the product does not tell you it will earn a rich result.

What You Get

You give it: Type Article with a headline, an author and a publish date.

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Article",
"headline": "How to Write a robots.txt File",
"author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "Your Name" },
  "datePublished": "2026-10-04"
}

An illustration of the format. Your markup uses the values you enter.

Schema Product vs Writing JSON-LD by Hand

Writing JSON-LD by hand is fine if you know the properties. Most people do not, and the documentation is long.

By hand compared with Schema Markup Validator & Generator
TaskBy handWith this product
Knowing the fieldsRead the documentation for each typeRequired, recommended and optional fields laid out in a form
Writing the markupType nested braces and quotesGenerated from the form
Catching mistakesRun it through a validator and decode the errorsPlain-language checks that name the field
Missing recommendationsA validator may say valid when fields are missingMissing recommended fields listed by name
Pasting into the pageWrap it in a script tag yourselfChoose script tag, JSON-LD or minified and copy

Where doing it by hand goes wrong

Valid but incomplete

A block can pass a syntax check and still lack the properties a result type needs.

Example values go live

Generators that pre-fill a sample phone number or address make it easy to publish fake data.

Wrong type for the page

Marking a category page as a Product, or a blog post as an Organization, confuses more than it helps.

Build Markup That Passes the Checks

Pick a type, fill in the fields and copy the JSON-LD.

What It Does Not Do, and Its Limits

So you know what to expect before you start.

  • Valid markup does not guarantee a rich result. Google decides what to show.
  • Eight types are supported. Other types can still be pasted and checked, but they are not built here.
  • The checks follow Google's documentation for each type. Other search engines may ask for more or less.
  • FAQ markup stays valid, but Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in June 2025.
  • Test the final page with Google's Rich Results Test before you publish.

Who Uses It

  • SEO managersProduce correct markup for a page without opening the documentation.
  • DevelopersGenerate a block to drop into a template, and validate what the template outputs.
  • Ecommerce teamsMark up products with price, availability and ratings correctly.
  • Local businessesDescribe your business, hours and location in a form search engines read.

Schema Markup Rules Worth Knowing

These follow Google's structured data guidelines.

Mark up what is on the page
The structured data must match what visitors can see. Markup for content that is not there can lead to a manual action.
Use JSON-LD
Google recommends JSON-LD. It sits in a script tag, separate from your visible HTML.
Complete the required fields first
A missing required field makes a block ineligible for the rich result. Recommended fields add detail.
Markup does not guarantee a rich result
Eligibility is not a promise. Search engines decide whether to show an enhanced result.
Test before you publish
Run the final page through Google's Rich Results Test and watch the structured data reports in Search Console.

Where the Rules Come From

The checks follow these official documents. Read them, and check your result with the ones marked Test.

  • Check your pasted markup against the same rules the generator uses

What Is New

  1. Signed in, each type starts from your site's real name and address with blank fields, never example values.
  2. Build markup for eight types and check pasted markup with the same rules.

Questions, Answered

What is schema markup?

Structured data that describes a page to search engines, usually written as JSON-LD in a script tag. It says what the page is about in a format machines read.

Which schema types does this support?

Organization, WebSite, Article, FAQPage, Product, LocalBusiness, Person and BreadcrumbList.

What is the difference between required and recommended fields?

Required fields must be present for the type to be eligible for a result. Recommended fields are not essential but give search engines more to work with. Optional fields are extras.

Will schema markup improve my rankings?

Not directly. It helps search engines understand a page and can make it eligible for richer results, which can improve clicks. It is not a ranking factor on its own.

Does FAQ schema still get rich results?

No. Google removed FAQ rich results from search in June 2025. FAQ markup remains valid and can be read by other systems, but you should not expect a rich result.

How do I add the markup to my site?

Paste the script tag into the page's HTML, in the head or the body. Most CMSs let you add it per page or through a plugin or tag manager.

Is it free?

Yes. Building and checking use no credits and need no account.
